I have been all over the internet but never found a tutorial for male Washi (和紙 わし Japanese Paper) dolls so I made one myself.
It is important to remember that the robe goes on left over right, for both genders. In the west, women usually wear their shirt right over left, whereas men have it left over right. However in Japan, wearing it left over right is the rule for traditional clothing (和服 わふくWafuku) such as Yukata (浴衣 ゆかた) or Kimono (着物 きもの). The only exception are corpses.
There are definitely significant differences between the male and female clothings but I’ll talk about it another time.
I messed up certain parts in my tutorial but the overall idea should be clear right? I used leftover washi for this but you can try making it with whatever paper you can find. Be creative!
You can try making a girl doll too by following the instructions: How to make Japanese paper doll.
